Who We Are
A group of Williamsport area residents who care about the country's future.
The Williamsport Tea Party was formed in 2009 in response to the public outrage over the bailouts being rushed through congress at taxpayer expense and against the overwhelming opposition of the American public.
In the months following the initial symbolic march to the Market Street Bridge to dump tea in the Susquehanna River, the group has incorporated as a non-profit and elected a board of directors.
The founding principles were codified in the Statement of Principles which was signed by most of the participants in a rally in Brandon Park the following summer. The scroll was sent to Washington DC and read into the Federal Register by Rep. Glenn Thompson and discussed on the floor of the House by Reps. Thompson, and Tom Marino.
In 2011 work was completed by Downsize DC in cooperation with The Williamsport Tea Party to write three pieces of legislation that begin to bring about the reforms sought by the Statement of Principles. These bills are currently seeking sponsors for the 112th congress now in session.
